Join Date Jul Posts 2, Thank you for all the input. The power in Watts being dissipated within the regulator om2940ct-5 the voltage drop across the regulator times the current passing through it.
works fine, LMCT5 not!
The acceptable range of ESR plotted versus load current is shown in the graph below. Larger values of output capacitance will give improved transient response. Hello, All I have is a cap between the output and ground at 22uf. I measure the lm2940t-5 and the output and seemed ok. I will try it with the additional cap.

I have a 22uf cap between the output and ground as specified in the datasheet for stability. Similar Threads Program works fine alone but not as part of a larger program. Bob Edit oops Bruce has just giving this info. Thanks, John In basicstamps yahoogroups. I can’t find a schematic of it. My input is 9V, I’m using the power supply that came with the P40 demo board. I tried with another LMCT5 and got the same result. The burn your finger datsaheet of hot. It’s interesting that mine gets this hot when I have seen schematics using the same setup, with a 10uf cap even.
That would work alright.

LM2940ct 5.0 gets HOT quick.
The time now is What are the caps on the BS2P40 demo board? It is essential that the output capacitor meet these requirements, or oscillations can result. Should I use some other voltage regulator? Dataeheet thought that the LMCT5 was better than thebut is not. If too little or none they can oscillate which may not show on your meter?

I haven’t experienced it personally, but you could have an issue there that might result in overheating. Hi John, What is the input voltage to the regulator — can you measure it? The LM gets hot after a few min which isn’t nice.
Groups is subject to http: Hi danielhr77, Make sure you have enough capacitance fitted both before and after the regulator. Does it have a backlight? Check your caps, it might be leaky. Quick Links Categories Recent Discussions.
I cannot find out why is not working. Hi All, I have a PIC application 16f88 and 2 leds that is working fine with a from National and a 6 volts 1 amper battery. Is ths just because of the load placed on it due to the lcd?
The only things being powered in the circuit is the stamp and the LCD. Typically, LCD displays take very little, but I’m not familiar with the unit you’re using. Also, remember the more voltage you have to drop and the more current you want to pull, the hotter the device will run.
I found a data sheet on the LM, and it looks like you need at least 22uF on the output, and drop-out will be around 0. Photos – easier uploading and sharing. Furthermore, hidden in the ap note the ones that I have seen is an admonition to have a minimum current load.
