Although neither author nor recipient is known for certain, the Letter to Diognetus purports to be written by a student of the apostles who calls himself Mathetes. It is probable that the author of the first ten chapters was not the same as that of the last two as it shows evidence of being around a century later in date Third Century. Who of us would dignetus have expected these things?
And when you have attained this knowledgewith what joy do you think you will be filled? They love all men, and are persecuted What sets apart Christians from the surrounding culture? Let any one of you suffer such indignities! Their teaching is fo based upon reveries inspired by the curiosity of men. They marry, as do all [others]; they beget children; but they do not destroy their offspring. There is then a section in which the author discusses at some length the futility of worshiping “gods” made of “perishable matter” or “corruptible matter” — stone, bronze, wood, etc.
For, as I said, this was no mere earthly invention which was delivered to them, nor is it a mere human system of opinion, which they judge it diognetsu to preserve so carefully, nor has a dispensation of mere human mysteries been committed to them, but truly God Himself, who is almighty, the Creator of all things, and invisible, has sent from heaven, and placed among men[Him who is] wpistle truthand the holy and incomprehensible Word, and has firmly established Him in their hearts.
Here are the passages that caught my attention. With this in mind, I hope that more Christians discover the beautiful teachings contained in early Patristic writings such as this! I highly recommend this letter to you if you are a Christian. Would not those things which dikgnetus now vessels, formed of the same materials, become like to such, if they met with the same artificers?

Wherefore both were planted close together. The author known as “Mathetes” has had only one text ascribed to them, and is believed to have been writing around the Second Century.
